About the supplements

MSM

MSM (Methyl-sulfonyl-methane) is an organic nutritional constituent found naturally in our body as well as in other living organisms, and in food. Organic sulfur is the nutritional constituent with the third highest contents in the human body.

Therapeutic use of sulfur was proven to bring relief in many medical conditions without any adverse drug reactions, and many nutritional experts worldwide consider it to contribute significantly to keeping the joints healthy, to pain relief of skeletal muscle, and to stimulation of growth processes and regeneration of hair, skin and nails.

From studies and treatment experience with MSM it appears that this is an effective food supplement under the following conditions:

Rehabilitation of joints

Sulfur is one of the most frequently occurring minerals in the body, but it appears that sulfur deficiency may be one of the factors in the development of arthritis. Studies showed that the sulfur concentration in joint tissues of arthritis patients is one-third lower than that in persons not suffering from any joint disease. Patients suffering from joint problems report relief of pain and improved mobility after taking MSM as food supplement.

In a study carried out with osteoarthritis patients aged 55-78, which measured the effect of treatment with MSM against placebo, it was found that after six weeks of treatment, there was a 82% improvement in typical disease symptoms in the MSM-treated patients, as opposed to only 18% in the placebo group.

Another study compared a group of arthritis patients treated with MSM with a group of patients with the same disease treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID`s). Both groups reported a similar improvement in the level of symptoms, but in the MSM group there were significantly fewer cases of bleeding ulcers - a frequently occurring adverse drug reaction of NSAID`s.

Pain relief

Sulfur, in combination with vitamin B and vitamin C, is essential for the synthesis of collagen - an insoluble protein fiber found in vertebrates. It is present in large amounts in connective tissue and bones. Therefore sulfur is a vital element for blood vessels, eyes, joints and connective tissue, an optimal sulfur supplement benefiting functioning and maintaining proper activity of these organs.

Glucosamine

Glucosamine is essential for connective tissue formation in the body. It belongs to the group of mucopolysaccharides, which, among other things, forms an integral part of the structure of cellular membranes in the body.

Glucosamine plays an important role in the formation of skin and nails, synovial fluid, bones, and membranes of the digestive and respiratory systems and the urinary tract.

Glucosamine is bound to different molecules. The two most effective compounds appear in this formula.

Glucosamine sulfate

The main physiological effect of glucosamine sulfate is on the joints. It stimulates the synthesis of cartilaginous components and is responsible not only for the proper functioning of the joints, but also for their regeneration after injuries and illnesses.

Research performed in the last 10 years shows that glucosamine sulfate is highly effective in reducing the symptoms of osteoarthritis. Double blind therapeutic studies showed that glucosamine sulfate was superior to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in easing pain and inflammations.

These studies demonstrated that the treatment helped to reduce swelling of the joints and to relieve pain intensity without causing any adverse drug reactions.

The sulfate in this compound plays an important role by stabilizing the connective tissues of cartilage, tendons and ligament.

Glucosamine hydrochloride

Studies have shown that chronic ingestion of glucosamine HCl significantly reduces pain, sensitivity and swelling of the joints and improves their mobility. Like glucosamine sulfate, glucosamine HCl is a precursor for the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, stimulates the formation of synovial fluid and is essential for the maintenance and regeneration of cartilage, connective tissue and ligament.

The combination of glucosamine sulfate and glucosamine HCl guarantees complete absorption for the building and regeneration of joint cartilage and easing pain and inflammations.

Chondroitin sulfate

This component, produced from bovine cartilage, is a mucopolysaccharide, consisting of a chain of disaccharide units. These units contain glucosamine or galactosamine and glucuronic acid.

Chondroitin is an important component of cartilage, tendons and ligament structures, stimulating the formation of these tissues. Long-term clinical trials studying the therapeutic effect of chondroitin sulfate on osteoarthritis patients showed that progression of the disease was considerably retarded, with improved functioning of the joints and easing of inflammation-related pain.

Chondroitin sulfate also inhibits enzymatic activity responsible for cartilage breakdown, causing progression of the disease to be retarded.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C improves the absorption of chondroitin and glucosamine by cartilage tissue. Furthermore, vitamin C plays a vital role in the synthesis and stabilization of collagen structure, the protein that "glues" connective tissue to the bones.
